Garage Door Spring Replacement
Whether a spring has already snapped or your door has started lifting crooked, slow, or loud, replacing worn springs is the difference between a door that glides and a door that fights you. We replace torsion and extension springs across San Antonio and the Hill Country with springs matched to your door's exact weight and track setup.
Call now if…
- The door lifts unevenly or looks crooked in the opening
- Opening feels slower, heavier, or noisier than it used to
- Visible rust or stretched, tired coils
- Your springs are 7+ years old and have never been replaced
- The door won't stay half-open during a balance test
Matched springs, not shelf springs
Every door has a spring rate it was engineered for. Put an undersized spring on and the opener does work it was never designed to do; oversize it and the door flies up and slams shut. We weigh and measure, then install springs matched to your specific door — that's why doors we service run quiet and last.
Standard vs. high-cycle springs
If you're in and out of the garage six times a day, a standard 10,000-cycle spring gives you well under a decade. High-cycle springs (25,000+) use thicker wire wound over a longer shaft and can be the smarter buy for a primary-entrance door. We'll lay out both prices and let you choose — no upsell pressure, just the math.
What's included
Flat quote first. Then: safe unloading of the old springs, new springs set to the correct wind, cable and drum inspection, full balance test, roller and hinge lubrication, and opener force settings re-checked so the safety reverse still works. One visit, done properly.
Common questions
Spring Replacement FAQs
How do I know if my springs need replacing before they break?
Do the balance test: with the door closed, pull the red release cord and lift the door halfway by hand. A healthy door stays put; a door that drifts down has tired springs. Slow, loud, or crooked operation are the other tells. Replacing on your schedule beats an emergency call after the bang.
Torsion or extension springs — which do I have?
Torsion springs mount on a shaft above the door opening; extension springs stretch along the horizontal tracks on each side. Torsion is the modern standard — smoother, safer, longer-lived. If you still run extensions without safety cables, ask us about converting.
How long does spring replacement take?
Usually 45 minutes to an hour on site, including the balance test and lubrication. We stock common sizes on the truck, so most San Antonio jobs are finished in a single same-day visit.
